Donald F. deGraffenried, LCSW – is a Senior Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Trainer and therapist with over 26 years of EMDR experience and has provided over 200 trainings throughout the United States and internationally. He is especially interested in using brief treatment EMDR models to work with the victims of violent crimes and with the survivors of homicide. deGraffenried is influenced by the innovative practice of Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hanh and in the interface of meditative practice with EMDR and its enhancement with bi-lateral stimulation. He maintains a private practice at the Consultation Center in New Haven, Connecticut, USA working with complex trauma, crime victims, first responders, combat veterans and the victims of gun violence.
He received his training to become a Part I and Part II EMDR Therapy Trainer, from Francine Shapiro, Ph.D. This included meeting with Dr. Shapiro and a group of trainers in training, for two separate weekends in Sea Ranch, California. deGraffenried provided pro bono advanced EMDR training to therapists in Lviv, Ukraine in October of 2024 and will return to Ukraine in the fall of 2025, to provide another week of advanced training. He admires the innovative work of Malcolm Gladwell, the courage of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the calm tenacity of Mohandas Gandhi. His Ebook, EMDR Therapy with Victims of Violence; Tools for the Clinician was published by Apple Books in February of 2025.
